Teaching Philosophy and Movement Principles

The first day will be dedicated to movement philosophy, teaching quality, and the distinctive elements of each lineage.

Participants will explore:

  • integration of breath, standing work, and rhythm in Ron Fletcher’s approach,
  • the influence of modern dance and Martha Graham technique on Fletcher Pilates,
  • Romana Kryzanowska’s classical approach based on Contrology structure, precision, and fluid transitions,
  • differences in cueing, sequence building, movement intention, and teaching style.

On the first day, spaces will remain open for mat work and general movement. Reformers will be set aside.

Key Themes:

  • breath as movement support,
  • movement initiation from center,
  • standing work integration,
  • rhythm and fluidity of transitions,
  • classical structure and flow,
  • teacher language and body observation,
  • presence and movement quality.

DAY 2

Comparative Reformer Lab – 10 Exercises, 2 Perspectives

The second day will be dedicated to a practical comparison of the teaching approaches of both lineages.

Participants will analyze the same exercises on the Universal Reformer through two different pedagogical perspectives.

Based on approximately 10 selected exercises, instructors will demonstrate:

  • movement intention,
  • working tempo,
  • cueing,
  • transitions,
  • corrections,
  • rhythm,
  • breath work,
  • and the philosophy behind exercise execution.

This format will allow participants to experience how the same exercise can be interpreted in different ways while remaining rooted in Joseph Pilates’ original method.
