Course Description

The Sinya Ladder Barrel & Spine Corrector Integration module invites you to work with the body in its full range of motion, embracing its natural curves, twists, and spiral axes. This is a space where the spine learns to breathe, and muscles regain flexibility and supportive intelligence. Through the Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector, you introduce the student to a deeper sense of movement, elongation, and correction of patterns that limit mobility.

In the spirit of Sinya Pilates, we focus on functional spinal alignment, re-education of patterns in rotation and extension, thoracic cage mobilization, and hip girdle control. We work with spiral movement, fluid transitions, directional breath, and the use of space as an active component of the lesson.

What You Will Learn

How to conduct functional and corrective lessons using the Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector, tailored to individual client needs.
How to develop spinal awareness in extension, rotation, lateral flexion, and segmental rolling, considering its natural curves.
How to recognize and release myofascial tensions through conscious movement, supported by equipment and breath.
How to create elongation sequences – both short and extensive movement chains – improving body axis length, mobility, and integration.
How to integrate work with the Barrel and Spine Corrector with directional breath (lateral chest breath, spiral breath), the center, and the sense of proprioception.
How to apply precise cueing in rotation and spirality to support students in effectively guiding movement through the axis. How to observe and correct compensations in the hip girdle, thoracic cage, and along the spine using equipment positioning.

Development Opportunities

Opportunities for further development within the Sinya system:

Sinya Chair & Spine Corrector & Ladder Barrel Flow Series (workshop – counts for 6 hours of Practice)

Sinya Cadillac Essentials (Stabilization, elongation, and resistance work in horizontal positions)

Certification upon completion of the course:

Sinya Ladder Barrel Flow & Spine Corrector Integration (+10 hours during Level 3 practice, both personal and/or classes with experienced teachers. Participation in the Sinya Chair & Spine Corrector & Ladder Barrel Flow Series workshop, which counts for 6 hours of Practice, is also included in the practice. The student records a full lesson, preceded by a lesson plan.

Certified

Sinya Ladder Barrel & Spine Corrector Integration

Thematic Scope and Selected Exercise Repertoire:

On the Ladder Barrel: Basic and Intermediate:

  • Side Stretch – Lateral elongation, lengthening of the rib line
  • Hamstring Stretch Standing / Seated – Posterior chain lengthening
  • Swan Prep on the Barrel – Segmental thoracic spine work
  • Back Extension Series – Traction and control in extension
  • Mermaid on Barrel – Spiral chest opening
  • Leg Lifts (Supine on Barrel) – Pelvic stabilization + core activation
  • Shoulder Mobilization – Shoulder rotation and girdle opening

On the Spine Corrector: Basic and Intermediate:

  • Breaststroke Prep – Back mobilization and control
  • Cat Stretch Seated – Rolling through breath, spinal integration
  • Side Sit-Up Series – Oblique abdominal muscle activation
  • Rolling Down on Corrector – Spinal articulation from thoracic to sacral
  • Bridge Series (Feet on Arc) – Pelvic control and spinal elongation
  • Side Bend Series – Rotation and lateral lengthening
  • Oblique Reach – Spirality and active torso rotation
  • Leg Series (Leg Circles, Scissors) – Integration of legs with the center on an unstable surface

Integrative Transitions and Equipment Combination:

  • Ladder Barrel → Spine Corrector Flow: Mermaid → Oblique Twist → Rolling Down
  • Lateral Line: Side Bend on Barrel → Side Sit-Up → Reach & Open
  • Elongation Sequences: Hamstring Stretch → Swan → Bridge
